    PLAN "B" - MINI33

Mate rebuilt my Calipers the other week, found one of the large pistons jammed in. Took him two hours to get it out. He suggested the car might stop no

as most people know the day starts early for a single track day but always worth it (we hope). Good weather so started with the Zestinos on and ran a good 49 which about the fastest I’ve been around the island. Then put some old Pirellis on and ran a 48 so happy days interesting part is I think I’m down 20 kmh on the straight fr the green on so we are well gripped up with either tyres. Beat part is I drove it onto the trailer

With a round of the 2ltre sports sedans at PI beginning of next month, thought we would head there tomorrow for a little test. Havent been back back since putting 34 into the Armco last year and haven’t been there in this one, so good timing. Have he Chinese zestinos on to start so see how they go on a smoother track. Will back to back with some old pirellis and see what happens. Also picked up some second hand wets for potential future requirements. I hate the wet but best to Be prepares. Lol

So stupid life and work stuff has been getting in the way and to be honest, I guess I have been overwhelmed by the amount of work a full strip and rebuild takes. Anyhow other half is away for weekend so before we head to the island with 33 I thought I should get stared again on BIGRED finally came up with a hose set up I liked. Could have played a bit more but decide to call it. Filter is now tucked away in the side by the surge tank rather than off the tank saddle. Also installed the first idea for the OEM steering column support. Plan is for a Woodward long term but even the shortest does work in the mini as is. So need to honk about that a little more. Wish i cut some weight saving holes in the brackets but to late now maybe I’ll drill later

Well we survived the first round of the year and man it was HOT, 35C for both days. When I left the track on Saturday the car said 40C and looking at data today the ECU was 58 in the cabin!! But we didnt overheat which was my main concern for the weekend. Running with the BIG BOYS in Open Sports Sedans so no chance of being anywhere in the field, fastest car was 12-13 sec lap faster than us. At a guess maybe 80 kmh faster down the chute. Anyhow, came away with 3rd in our class so not too bad and we drove it back on the trailer Note to self, Pirellis are much better to drive than Chinese Slicks But the Chinese ones had grip as I ran a faster time on the Chinese the other week but it was 10 deg cooler that day. But Pirellis were an old set and Chinese new.

Do you me the two on the floor or the GP under the engine? when I fitted the floor trays to the green one , I had to rivnut in the floor in section (ugly but functional) and make up a bracket to subframe but I have now found that bracket to subframe is an OEM. Next time for the the red one I’ll either us rivstud which I think you can get or come up with something better. You could weld to floor studs if happy to do so.

Looking good, Ive been thinking about the bulk head battery terminal and then running the cable down the left underside like the OEM. Just to keep the inside tidy. Whats the scoop you are running there?

Slow progress, chopped harness is nearly complete. Was going PDM but decided to leave for another time and try this way first, if I have chopped to much or something by mistake and it doesn't work I guess a PDM is a definite. LOL Waiting on some clips to come to hold things in place and then put the pedals back and the steering column and start under the bonnet.

So not a lot happening over the christmas break, painted front is installed and decided to start a new fresh livery for 2019. Also put a new windscreen in because they are cheap and the old sandblasted one was knackered Untitled by Mini 34, on Flickr Untitled by Mini 34, on Flickr Untitled by Mini 34, on Flickr
