    Racing type Battery

I thought I'd post an update to my post above....my Braille battery failed spectacularly with melted casing. This is due to the fact that these batteries (all LI auto application batteries it seems) just cannot handle the deep cycling of a draw down to a low voltage then a full charge. Spoke with Braille and they don't offer any improved tech as of today, but Antigravity certainly does with their 're-start' feature, so that is what I'm trying next (ATX 20 RS @ 4lbs). Check it out as it seems to be a really good solution, plus much more affordable than the Braille product. https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/news/product-release-restart-battery/ https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-forum/1056247-antigravity-lith-ion-batteries.html Happy spring all (driving season!)

    2002 Dark Silver Track/Sprint Project

Thanks. I was in two minds as to whether to do it, I'm really chuffed with how it came out.

    The batmobile

Well I’ve decided to come out of the company car scheme and bought myself a tow barge for track days, just need to do my trailer test now.

    2002 Dark Silver Track/Sprint Project

Been a couple of weeks, more things have happened. First up I tried to do a Sunstrip and failed miserably, too many curves in a Mini screen and I suck at applying this stuff. I think I'll have to enlist a local sign writers to do it properly. For now I've just gone for a Yoko sticker. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr BlackFlagLabs sticker on the rump, because he sorts all my stickers out for me. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Next up coolant tank. This is a known week spot on these cars as they perish and crack as well as the caps failing. There's a few decent replacement tanks on the market from Airtec, canton etc but I've gone for the DaveFab one. It's new to the market but the Dave's have been knocking it out of the park with MX5 bits for a few years now plus this is designed and made in the UK. Really chuffed with it. Weld in roll cage advice

Custom cages offer there cage in t45 where safety devices use CDS. The reason I say this is t45 is lighter and stronger. In terms of fitting custom cages have approved fitters round the country but do your research on them. A few of us on here have used Steve Lancaster in Selby, but you would have to probably wait for him as he will probably have a queue of rally car cages

  19. Anyone considering or used titanium backing plates between caliper Pistons and pads? is it a cheap effective mod or snake oil ? i have gp2 calipers to fit soon and I hear they sometimes eat the seals after heavy track work ?

    OEM flywheel mounting surface thickness?

Apparently TTV flywheel requires R50 bolts (M10x22), I suppose I'll find out soonish.

    PLAN "B" - MINI33

Well we survived the first round of the year and man it was HOT, 35C for both days. When I left the track on Saturday the car said 40C and looking at data today the ECU was 58 in the cabin!! But we didnt overheat which was my main concern for the weekend. Running with the BIG BOYS in Open Sports Sedans so no chance of being anywhere in the field, fastest car was 12-13 sec lap faster than us. At a guess maybe 80 kmh faster down the chute. Anyhow, came away with 3rd in our class so not too bad and we drove it back on the trailer Note to self, Pirellis are much better to drive than Chinese Slicks But the Chinese ones had grip as I ran a faster time on the Chinese the other week but it was 10 deg cooler that day. But Pirellis were an old set and Chinese new.

    Cheque book Racing R53 build

Yeah, and they need a small section cut out near the front subframe.

    Cheque book Racing R53 build

Do you me the two on the floor or the GP under the engine? when I fitted the floor trays to the green one , I had to rivnut in the floor in section (ugly but functional) and make up a bracket to subframe but I have now found that bracket to subframe is an OEM. Next time for the the red one I’ll either us rivstud which I think you can get or come up with something better. You could weld to floor studs if happy to do so.

    Cheque book Racing R53 build

Any pointers on what we need to do to fot the R56 undertrays to the r53.

    OEM flywheel mounting surface thickness?

For reference sake, there is 14mm of thread depth in the crank, and the Giken GTS1 flywheel is 10mm.

    Track/Daily R53, don't tell the missus.

I'm not entirely sure why it's spun the bearing. The guys think it's a clearance issue and potentially overtightened bolts. I was pretty careful torquing everything up though but I'm admittedly no mechanic just an enthusiast trying his hand. The crank was reground and oversized bearings supplied so that could be one potential cause.

    Track/Daily R53, don't tell the missus.

Oh thats horrible, sad to see that. I feel your pain having lost an engine to build problems. What's caused the bigend damage though? Surely the squirters falling off wouldn't do that
